Off-ramp
A crypto off-ramp is any service that converts cryptocurrency back into fiat currency — bank transfers, card withdrawals, and PayPal cash-outs from licensed exchanges and specialized crypto-to-fiat services are all off-ramps.
An off-ramp is the reverse of an on-ramp: converting cryptocurrency back into fiat currency that lands in a bank account, card, or payment app. Like on-ramps, off-ramps are heavily regulated — the service moving fiat has to identify the recipient and comply with AML rules. This usually means KYC verification of the person cashing out.
The main off-ramp options are licensed centralized exchanges (deposit crypto, sell for fiat, withdraw to your bank), specialized crypto-to-fiat services (MoonPay, Ramp, Guardarian, Kraken Direct — often supporting card and bank rails directly), and peer-to-peer platforms where you sell to another individual for cash or bank transfer.
The typical workflow with a non-custodial stack: keep the bulk of holdings in self-custody, use SwapZilla or another non-custodial tool to swap into a stablecoin or an easily-off-rampable asset (USDT, USDC, BTC), and then use a licensed off-ramp for the fiat conversion. This minimizes the time crypto sits on a custodial platform.
